Born and raised in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Rusty Penno has now been cooking for over 24 years.
Rusty apprenticed at SIAST for three years and was invited to compete in the Gold Medal Plates four times now. Before coming to the Dakota Dunes Casino, he had spent four years at the Delta Bessborough, 12 years at the Boffins Club at Innovation place as a Chef and Culinary Director, and another two years developing the franchise model for the Rock Creek Brand of Restaurants.
For the past 12 years, Rusty has partnered with the Saskatchewan Canola Information Board and has hosted a summer tour of food writers and chefs from around the world showcasing Saskatchewan products and agriculture. He has been featured in a variety of publications and media in Mexico, Japan and Canada. He has spent time working with the Vancouver Aquariums sustainable fishing program and the David Suzuki Foundation as well as many others. When asked to describe his cooking style, He says he doesn’t have a specific style but creates what inspires him in the moment.
